The Graduate School of Public Affairs Executive Leadership Master of Criminal Justice (ELMCJ) degree prepares police executives for today's expanding, demanding roles. The ELMCJ program allows participants to gain and enhance the knowledge and skills necessary to manage change, solve problems, plan and act strategically, develop and challenge employees, foster and encourage innovation and trust, understand and support calculated risk taking, and establish and maintain organizations with a sound foundation in ethics and integrity. ELMCJ is a two-year, part-time cohort course of study. The ELMCJ brings together current and future police executives from throughout Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region. Each class will be structured to explore relevant leadership issues facing police both locally and nationally.

MASTER of POLITICS AND PUBLIC POLICY

30 hours of graduate-level coursework in Political Science
Classes offered in Durango program available at UCC campus

Required course: The State of the Discipline, team-taught by entire rostered Faculty
(3 hours)

Required areas (9 hours)
Political theory (3 hours)
American politics (3 hours)
Foreign politics, comparative politics or I.R. (3 hours)

Thesis (6 hours) or project (3 hours)

Electives may include a maximum of 9 hours in the following areas combined:
Independent study, graduate seminars in cognate disciplines, internships
(but more than 6 hours in any of these three categories)

Maximum of 9 hours may be transferred from outside the Department and University
in lieu of the preceding 9 hours of electives

M.A. in Politics and Public Policy

Same general requirements as the regular M.A. with the following exceptions:

Electives must focus on U.S. or comparative public policy (as provided on a
regularly scheduled basis in Durango and UCC)

In lieu of The State of the Discipline, and as a part of the admissions process,
prospective applicants are required to take the senior-level course Advanced Public
Administration in addition to the 30 hours of graduate work required for the M.A.

In lieu of a 3-hour project or a 6-hour thesis, candidates take a 6-hour Research
Practicum, comprised of a 3-hour Independent Study for research design and
literature review and a 3-hour project paper addressing some aspect of
their work as public or non-profit administrators
